Why yards join
Leads that are already sold, at a price you set
Your price, your districts
You set the £/tonne you will pay for each postcode district you work, and change it whenever the metal price moves. The customer is quoted from your rate, so every lead is at a price you chose.
Customers who have already said yes
A lead is a car whose owner has seen the price, accepted it and given the address and a phone number. No haggling on the doorstep, no cold calling — you ring to fix the day.
You pay the customer, we never touch the money
You pay the seller by bank transfer yourself, as you do now. We invoice you one fee per car you collect, monthly in arrears. A lead that comes to nothing costs nothing.
Switch off when the yard is full
Take leads district by district, pause a district or the lot when you are stacked out, and start again when you have room. You are never sent a car you cannot handle.
How it works
From application to your first car
- 01
Apply, and we check the licences
Send the form below. We check the ATF permit and waste carrier registration against the public registers, ring you, and approve the yard. You get a login to the collector portal.
- 02
Set your £/tonne per district
In the portal you put a rate against each postcode district you want, and change it any time. We approve each rate before it goes live; where more than one yard covers a district, the customer is shown the best price.
- 03
Leads come to you — accept within the hour
A customer in one of your districts accepts your price and you get the lead by email (and text, if you want it), with the car's details and the price you offered. Accept it within 1 hour in office hours and the address and phone number are yours; decline and it goes to the next yard.
- 04
Ring, collect, pay, and the fee follows
Ring the customer within 2 hours to fix the day, collect with your own truck, pay them by bank transfer within 24 hours and issue the CoD. Mark it collected in the portal: that is the only point a fee is earned, and it goes on your monthly statement.
What we ask of you
The standards every yard on the network keeps
- An Authorised Treatment Facility permit from the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, SEPA or NIEA, with the site able to issue a Certificate of Destruction through DVLA for every car.
- An upper-tier waste carrier registration, and public liability insurance for the yard and the vehicles.
- Your own recovery vehicle and drivers, so a customer is collected from their address at no charge.
- Payment to the customer by bank transfer within 24 hours of collection — never cash, which is illegal for scrap vehicles in England and Wales.
- Photo ID and proof of address checked at the door, and the customer told before loading if the car is not as described.
Questions yards ask
Before you apply
What does it cost?
Nothing to join and nothing while you wait. You pay one fixed fee per car you actually collect, plus VAT, invoiced monthly in arrears with a statement listing every car. We tell you the fee when we ring you about your application.
What if the customer never answers the phone?
You log each call attempt in the portal. After 3 attempts over two working days you can close the lead as "customer unreachable" and there is no fee. The same if the customer cancels before you collect.
What if the car is not what the customer said?
The customer answers the condition questions before they see the price, so most cars are as described. If one is not — the engine is missing, say — you tell the customer the revised figure before anything goes on the truck, and they can say no. If you were sent out on a wasted journey you can raise it in the portal and the office credits the fee where that is fair.
Do I have to be an Authorised Treatment Facility?
Yes. Every car on the network is scrapped legally with a Certificate of Destruction, and only an ATF can issue one. Collectors who are not ATFs cannot join, whatever their size.
How many districts can I cover?
As many as you can genuinely collect from. Each district has its own rate, so you can pay more close to the yard and less further out, and pause any district when you are busy.
Who pays the customer?
You do, by bank transfer within 24 hours of collection, exactly as with any other car you buy. We never hold the customer’s money and we never take a cut of what you pay them.
Can I leave?
Any time. Pause your districts and no more leads come; anything already accepted is still yours to finish. There is no contract term and no notice period.
