How the index works
Every figure is the price actually paid for a car collected through the network, not a quote or a price list. Each car counts once, in the month it was collected. Auction purchases, trade deliveries and jobs paid at £0 are left out. Prices differ by region mainly because of the distance to licensed yards and local scrap metal prices, and bigger, heavier cars are worth more because more metal is recovered. Each month’s figures are fixed when they are published on the 1st of the following month, so published numbers never change. These figures for October 2026 were published on 18 October 2026.
