Scrap my van online
A van is worth more for scrap than a car for one reason: it weighs more. A long-wheelbase Transit carries nearly twice the steel of a family hatchback, and the yards on the network price it that way. Enter the registration and postcode for the best figure a licensed yard covering your area will pay today; that yard collects free, anywhere in the UK, and pays by bank transfer as the van is loaded.
- Priced on the van you have
- The registration lookup gives the exact model and kerb weight — short-wheelbase or Luton — so there is no flat “van price”.
- The yard sends the right truck
- Long-wheelbase, high-roof and 3.5-tonne bodies go on a heavier recovery unit. Tell us what it is and the collector plans for it.
- Business vans welcome
- The yard pays the business account and provides a VAT invoice and the Certificate of Destruction in the company name where you need them.
- Paid within 24 hours
- Bank transfer to the registered keeper — sole trader or limited company — within 24 hours of collection. Never cash.
Vans the network collects
Panel vans — Transit, Sprinter, Vivaro, Trafic, Transporter, Crafter, Ducato, Relay, Boxer, Master — and the car-derived ones: Berlingo, Partner, Caddy, Connect, Combo, Fiesta van. Pickups such as the Hilux, Ranger, L200, Navara and D-Max. Tippers and dropsides, Lutons and box vans on a 3.5-tonne chassis, minibuses, crew vans and campervan conversions. Age, mileage and the state of the bodywork do not matter; a van that has done 300,000 miles for a courier weighs the same as one that has not.
Why the price is higher than a car’s
Scrap metal is bought by the tonne. A Ford Focus is about 1,300 kg; a long-wheelbase Transit is over 2,000 kg and a 3.5-tonne Luton can be 2,500 kg with nothing in it. Diesel vans also carry a larger catalytic converter and, on later ones, a particulate filter, and both have a value of their own. Put that in front of several yards competing for the same district and a van is the vehicle where the network makes the biggest difference to the figure you are offered.
Fleet and business vans
A yard on the network can invoice, pay the company account and issue the Certificate of Destruction in the company name for your records. For several vehicles at once, or a standing arrangement for a fleet, get in touch and we will put you with the collectors that handle trade work in your area.
Before the collector comes
- Clear it out — tools, racking, anything in the bulkhead or under the seats.
- Remove gas bottles from campers and any hazardous load.
- Have the V5C and ID ready; for a company van, something showing your authority to sell it.
- Say if it does not start or the wheels are seized, so the yard brings a truck that can winch it.
Common questions
How much is a scrap van worth?
It goes by weight. A car-derived van such as a Berlingo or Connect is priced much like a car; a Transit, Sprinter or Vivaro comes in well above; a 3.5-tonne Luton or dropside higher again. Then it depends on which yards cover your district and what they are paying this week. Enter the registration for the exact figure.
The van belongs to my company — what does the collector need?
The same as for a private vehicle, plus something showing the person handing it over can act for the company: a letterhead, a business card and ID, or an email from a director. Payment goes to a business account in the company’s name, and the yard can invoice if you need the paperwork.
Can a converted van or one with racking be scrapped?
Yes. Take out anything you want to keep — racking, tools, ply lining — before the collector arrives; whatever is left goes with the van. Camper conversions are fine too, with the gas bottles removed first.
Do the yards take vans over 3.5 tonnes?
Some do. Ring us with the registration and where it is; 7.5-tonne trucks and larger commercials need a different vehicle and are priced individually rather than online.
