Highly professional and recommendable from start to finish. Collected my vehicle and paid within a few hours, and the collection driver was absolutely brilliant. Can’t recommend them enough and if I ever have to scrap a car again won’t hesitate to use them. Paid the best price too!

How it works

How to scrap my car online: four steps

You deal with one website and one collector. Nobody else gets your details.

  1. 1

    Get your price

Registration and postcode. We look the car up on the DVLA record and price it against what licensed yards near you are paying today.

  2. 2

    Book it

Where the car is, and what suits you. Under a minute, no account, no haggling.

  3. 3

    Your collector rings you

A licensed yard covering your postcode calls within two hours during the working day to fix the day — accept in the evening and the call comes first thing next morning. Collection is free, anywhere in the UK.

  4. 4

    Paid within 24 hours

Bank transfer to the registered keeper within 24 hours of collection. The DVLA is told and you get the Certificate of Destruction.

What people were actually paid

The typical range paid for the cars scrapped most often through the network since 2024. Your price depends on the weight of the car, whether it is complete, and what yards near you are paying this week — so get yours rather than guessing from this.

What moves your price up or down

Every price starts from the weight. These are the things that move it from there.

Worth more

  • Complete: engine, gearbox, wheels and catalytic converter all still on the car.
  • Heavier: estates, people carriers, 4x4s and vans carry more metal.
  • Still runs: a car that drives onto the truck sits higher in its band, and a breaker may want its parts.
  • Newer, with light damage: a yard that repairs or breaks cars can pay above its scrap weight.

Worth less

  • Parts gone: no catalytic converter, engine or wheels comes straight off the figure.
  • Very light: city cars under a tonne sit at the bottom of the range whatever their condition.
  • Not as described: fire damage or a stripped interior you did not mention changes the price on the day.

Scrap or salvage: which is yours?

Most cars that come through the network are scrap: older, high-mileage cars whose value is their metal and a few parts. A newer car with an expensive fault or accident damage can be worth far more than its weight, because a yard can repair it or sell what is on it.

You do not have to decide which yours is. Enter the registration, describe the condition honestly, and the price takes the car’s age and state into account. For newer cars with heavy damage or an insurance write-off, the damaged car page explains how those are priced.

Why a network

Local yards compete. You get the price that wins.

A single yard can only pay what its own lorry and its own furnace make worth its while. A network puts every licensed yard covering your postcode against each other, and shows you the best of them.

More on how the network works →
Licensed yards only
Every collector is an Authorised Treatment Facility with a waste carrier licence. Your car is recycled legally and your name comes off it at the DVLA.
The best local price, not one national rate
Yards compete for the cars in their own postcode. You see the highest approved price for yours, worked out from the weight and condition of the car.
Free collection wherever you are
Driveway, roadside, garage, works car park. Runner or not. Keys or no keys. If it has a UK registration, it can be collected.
No cash, no surprises
Paying cash for scrap cars is illegal. You are paid by bank transfer, and the price you accepted is the price you get unless the car is not as described.

Not just cars

Vans, 4x4s, hybrids and electric cars

Vans and pickups

Vehicles over 2,100 kg, mostly vans and big 4x4s, typically fetched £430 through the network in the last year, half of them between £390 and £465. Mention racking or ply lining, and take tools and stock out first.

4x4s and SUVs

Heavy and often wanted for their axles and gearboxes, so they sit near the top of the range. A seized transfer box, failed air suspension or a rusty chassis does not stop a collection.

Hybrids and electric cars

A Prius, a Leaf or a plug-in Outlander goes to a yard equipped to remove and recycle the high-voltage battery safely. The battery is handled separately and the rest of the car is priced like any other.

Collection day

On the day, and afterwards

Have these ready

  • Photo ID and a recent proof of address for the registered keeper. The law requires the driver to check them.
  • The keys, and the V5C logbook if you have it. Without it, the ID is enough.
  • Your belongings out of the car: parking permits, dash cams, child seats, anything in the boot.
  • A private number plate moved to retention first, or it goes with the car.
  • Clear access, or a word to the collector if the car has flat tyres or sits in a tight spot.

After it has gone

  • The money reaches the keeper’s bank account within 24 hours of collection.
  • The yard tells the DVLA and issues the Certificate of Destruction, which ends your responsibility for the car.
  • The DVLA refunds every full month of road tax left, without you applying.
  • Cancel your insurance once the car has actually been collected, not before.

Scrap my car: the questions people search

How much will I get to scrap my car?

It depends on the weight, make and age of the car and what is still on it. Across the network the median price paid in the last twelve months is £228; your registration gives the figure for your car and your postcode in about thirty seconds.

Where is the best place to scrap my car?

A licensed yard near you: collection is only free when the yard is close enough, and the price is only the best where yards compete for the car. The site compares every approved yard covering your postcode and shows the one that pays most.

Is there a scrap yard near me?

Enter your postcode and the site says straight away whether a licensed collector covers it, before you accept anything. The town pages below show where the network collects today.

Who tells the DVLA when I scrap my car?

The collecting yard. As an Authorised Treatment Facility it issues the Certificate of Destruction and notifies the DVLA that you are no longer the keeper, so your liability for the car ends.

Do I need the V5C to scrap my car?

No. The driver checks photo ID and proof of address for the registered keeper instead, and the sale goes through without the logbook.

Can I scrap a car with no MOT or tax?

Yes. A car with no MOT cannot be driven to a yard, so it is collected, and the price is the same as for a car with months left on both.

How and when do I get paid?

By bank transfer from the collecting yard to the registered keeper, within 24 hours of collection. Cash for scrap has been illegal since 2013, so no genuine collector offers it.

Is the price guaranteed?

Yes, as long as the car matches what you said when you got the price. If the collector finds something major you did not mention, such as a missing engine or catalytic converter, they explain the new figure before loading and you are free to say no.

Can I scrap a car that still has finance on it?

Not until the finance is settled, because the finance company owns the car until then. Once it is paid off it can be scrapped like any other.

Can I scrap a car that is not in my name?

Only the registered keeper can be paid, so the keeper needs to be involved and show ID. If you are dealing with the car of someone who has died, the executor can scrap it.

How soon can the car be collected?

Your collector rings within two hours in the working day and you agree a day that suits you on that call.

Do I have to be there for the collection?

Someone has to hand over the keys and the keeper’s ID has to be checked, so it is easiest if the keeper is there. Tell the collector if that is awkward.

Will a car with no keys be taken?

Yes. It is winched onto the truck. Say the keys are missing when you get your price so the right truck is sent.

Do I pay anything for the collection?

Yes, wherever the car is in the UK. Nothing comes off your price for the lorry, the fuel or the paperwork.

Will I get my road tax back?

Yes, for every full month left. The DVLA sends the refund by itself once the yard has reported the car as scrapped.
