Scrap my car in Central Scotland

From Paisley in the west to Dunfermline and Edinburgh in the east, the Central Belt is the one part of Scotland where we have priced and collected cars in real numbers: Glasgow and its towns, the Lanarkshire towns along the M74 and M8, Falkirk and Stirling, and the Lothians and Fife. The collectors are Scottish licensed yards, and Scottish rules apply.

The big towns in Central Scotland

Scottish yards, Scottish rules

The collectors covering the Central Belt are licensed metal dealers and Authorised Treatment Facilities in Scotland, so the paperwork follows Scottish law: the yard checks your ID, pays the registered keeper by bank transfer — cash for scrap has been banned in Scotland since 2016, as in England and Wales — and issues the Certificate of Destruction so the DVLA record is closed. The site prices your car against every approved collector covering your postcode and shows you the best figure.

Glasgow, Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire

Glasgow itself, Paisley, East Kilbride and Cumbernauld on the G side; Motherwell, Hamilton, Wishaw, Bellshill and Coatbridge along the M74 and M8 in Lanarkshire. Tenement streets, permit zones and multi-storey car parks are normal here and the yards are used to them — say where the car is when you book. Each town page below carries our own figures for that town.

Falkirk, Stirling, the Lothians and Fife

Falkirk and Stirling sit between the two cities and are covered from both sides; Edinburgh and Livingston from the east; Dunfermline across the bridge in Fife. Coverage in Scotland depends on which yards are on the network at the time, so enter your postcode — the site tells you straight away whether a collector covers it, before you accept anything.

Any car, any condition

MOT failures, non-runners, insurance write-offs, vans and cars that have sat for years are all priced the same way; the number changes with weight and condition, never whether a yard will take it. Lost the V5C? Photo ID and proof of address are what the collector needs.

Questions people in Central Scotland ask us

Do you really cover Scotland?
The Central Belt, yes — Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, Falkirk, Stirling, Edinburgh, West Lothian and Fife have all had cars collected through the network. Enter your postcode for the current answer for your street; coverage follows which Scottish yards are on the network at the time.
Are the collectors in Scotland licensed?
Yes. Every collector on the network is an Authorised Treatment Facility with a metal dealer's licence from its local council. The yard issues the Certificate of Destruction and the DVLA is told you are no longer the keeper.
Can I be paid cash in Scotland?
No. Scotland banned cash payments for scrap metal in 2016, as England and Wales did in 2013. The collector pays the registered keeper by bank transfer within 24 hours of collection.
How quickly is a car collected in Glasgow or Edinburgh?
Where a yard covers the postcode, usually within one to three days of accepting the price. The collector rings to agree a day and the driver confirms before setting off.
