Scrap my car
in Airdrie
Airdrie's ML6 is one of the three busiest Scottish districts in our records: only Grangemouth and Polmont's FK2 and Livingston's EH54 have sent more cars through the network. The town and its villages, from Glenmavis in the north to Caldercruix and Plains on the road east, are priced together.

The town and the villages
ML6 is the whole of Airdrie — the centre and Gartlea, Petersburn, Whinhall, Clarkston, Rawyards and Cairnhill — and the villages around it: Chapelhall and Calderbank to the south, Glenmavis and Greengairs to the north, Caldercruix and Plains out along the A89 towards the Bathgate hills. It is one district, so a car in Plains is priced exactly as one in the town centre would be.
Between the M8 and the A89
Airdrie has Coatbridge next door to the west, Cumbernauld fifteen minutes north and the M8 along its southern edge. Lanarkshire has more licensed yards than anywhere else in the Central Belt, so the run to an ML6 address is short and collection within a day or two of accepting is normal.
What comes off Airdrie's drives
Astras lead the list here, as they do across Lanarkshire, with Focuses, Fiestas and Corsas close behind and a steady run of Insignias and Minis. Most are MOT failures and non-runners at the end of a long life. A car that has stood on a Petersburn drive for two winters is routine — just say so when you book, so the right truck comes. Vans from the Chapelhall and Airdrie estates are priced from the registration like any car.
Payment and paperwork
The collecting yard pays the registered keeper by bank transfer within 24 hours of collection; cash for scrap has been illegal in Scotland since 2016. The yard is an Authorised Treatment Facility, so it issues the Certificate of Destruction and the DVLA is told the car has gone. No V5C? Photo ID and proof of address do instead.

What people say afterwards
Fantastic experience from enquiry through to collection. Payment made promptly and the communication was excellent. Highly recommended.
Highly professional and recommendable from start to finish. Collected my vehicle and paid within a few hours, and the collection driver was absolutely brilliant. Can’t recommend them enough and if I ever have to scrap a car again won’t hesitate to use them. Paid the best price too!
Great customer service and very professional. They made the whole experience easy as I had never done anything like this before and contacted me promptly to arrange collection. I received a great price for the car too. Would highly recommend.
Questions
What people in Airdrie ask
Are Caldercruix and Plains covered, or just the town?
Both. The whole of ML6 is priced together: Airdrie itself, Chapelhall, Calderbank, Glenmavis, Greengairs, Caldercruix and Plains.
Is Airdrie priced differently from Coatbridge?
No. ML5 and ML6 are priced at the same rate per tonne today, so two identical cars get the same figure. Quotes differ because of the car itself: its weight, age and condition.
My car has been off the road for years. Will a yard still take it?
Yes. Condition changes the price, never whether it is collected. Tell us if the tyres are flat or the handbrake is seized, and the collector brings a truck with a winch.
How soon can you get to Airdrie?
Most Airdrie collections happen within a day or two of booking. The yard that collects is local, rings you to fix the day, and confirms the morning or afternoon before the driver leaves.
Do you charge for collection in Airdrie?
No. Collection is free — the lorry, the driver and the fuel are the collector's cost anywhere in ML6, and nothing comes off the price on the day unless the car is not as you described it.
What if I have lost the V5C?
You can still scrap the car. The law asks the yard to check who you are, not to see the logbook, so photo ID and proof of address are what matter. The Authorised Treatment Facility that takes the car issues the Certificate of Destruction and updates the DVLA record.
Do you pay cash?
No, and no licensed yard legally can: the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 bans cash for scrap vehicles. The collector pays by bank transfer to the registered keeper within 24 hours of collection.
