The M62 at Rochdale and Milnrow, the A627(M) down to Oldham, the A58 across to Heywood and Halifax: collectors from the Oldham side and the Bury side both reach Rochdale cheaply, and the site shows the best of their prices. Once you accept, the yard rings to agree a day — usually within one to three days.

The districts

OL11 is the town centre, Castleton, Sudden and Deeplish; OL12 Spotland, Shawclough, Healey, Wardle and up to Whitworth; OL16 Milnrow, Newhey, Firgrove, Belfield and the Kingsway side; OL15 Littleborough and Smithy Bridge. Terraces in the town and the mill villages, semis with drives on the newer estates, and steep lanes once you are past Wardle or above Littleborough. Say where the car is parked and whether it rolls.

What the yards see here

Older diesel family cars failed on emissions or corrosion, small hatchbacks at the end of a long life, vans from the Kingsway and Sandbrook estates, and a steady run of cars that have been parked up behind a terrace for years. Non-runners are winched; MOT failures are priced like a clean car minus whatever is missing; vans up to 3.5 tonnes go through the same form and can be invoiced. Weather matters on the moor edge — a car at Blackstone Edge in January is collected when the road allows.

Paid within 24 hours

The collector is an Authorised Treatment Facility. Photo ID and proof of address for the registered keeper, bank transfer within 24 hours of collection, and the Certificate of Destruction issued by the yard so the DVLA record is closed. A lost logbook does not stop the sale.
